A film with new eyes
The Optimist is an unconventional character driven comedy drama, rich with a unique innovative visual style and thought provoking conversation. When their train breaks down, an unlikely group travels together to a mutual destination, along the way they discover themselves and possibly the meaning of life.
Synopsis: On his way to a convention, American social entrepreneur, James, runs into his old Cambridge philosophy professor, Michael, who is traveling with the academic, Martine. Their train gets accidentally decoupled, leaving them stranded on the outskirts of the quirky English town of Milton Keynes. Accompanied by three other passengers, the young and cocky Emily, Olivia and Jason, the group journeys through this very surreal place. Moral dilemmas, high heels, free will and chicken are a few of the subjects explored. For some of them, this triggers a revelation about their lives: past, present and future. The Optimist takes you on a playful journey looking at modern society through humour, philosophy and colour.
The Optimist is a social satire on consumerism, conformism and the many other -isms we fall prey to. It deals with a range of themes from woman's image in society, to the impact of technology on our lives, with humor and insight. But first and foremost, it is a film which highlights the importance of individuality in a world which is constantly trying to make you the same. Be different.
